Farmed + Foraged

 

In celebration of the season, Berkshire Grown will host Farmed + Foraged: A Weekend of Spring Flavors, a culinary celebration of farmed and foraged seasonal foods at area restaurants from Friday, May 25 through Monday, May 28. More than two dozen Berkshire Grown restaurants will participate.

Farmed + Foraged participants that have made a commitment to sustainably source local and wild edibles from area farms, forests, and fields and will offer an array of prix fixe menus and a la carte selections to celebrate this dining event. Menus will feature locally grown produce, Berkshire artisan cheeses, heritage breed meats, locally made bread and chocolate, wild edibles and Berkshire-crafted beer and spirits. Dates of participation, menu and a la carte offerings and pricing will vary at each location.

Menu Spotlight on Farmed + Foraged Sponsors

The Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge will be featuring wild greens such as Stinging Nettles, Lambs Quarters and invasive plants such as Japanese Knotweed. Matching the greens with various proteins from local farms and foraged mushrooms that may be available.

As has been the tradition for many years, The Red Lion Inn features sustainable dinner specials on Sundays and Mondays and a daily sustainable breakfast.

Mezze Restaurant Group will spotlight locally grown items with Farmed + Foraged prix fixe menus at Allium Restaurant + Bar in Great Barrington and Mezze Bistro + Bar in Williamstown. The restaurants will feature foraged edibles and the first of spring greens from local farms. Mezze Bistro + Bar will feature a three-course prix fixe menu for $40 per person

Baba Louie’s Sourdough Pizza in Great Barrington and Pittsfield will feature Equinox Farm Arugula Salad with pecans, chèvre, Prosciutto, and a Green Goddess dressing made with ramps.

Samples of Farmed + Foraged-inspired dishes from the Guido’s Kitchen at Pittsfield on Friday, May 25 from 12 pm to 5 pm or while supplies last, and Saturday May 26 in the Great Barrington store, 12 – 5pm or while supplies last. In both store locations, customers can shop for the freshest local farmed and foraged edibles to try out recipes of local seasonal foods in their own kitchens. foraged fettucini primavera:  (housemade pasta contains, northplain egg yolks, king arthur organic flour VT) foraged housatonic fiddleheads, foraged morel mushrooms (if avail), new marlborough ramps, favas, peas…………………..$25 dinner/17 lunch portion

spring gnudi: new marlborough ramps, housatonic fiddleheads, equinox spinach, BBC IPA beurre blonde sauce, highlawn cream, cricket creek maggie’s round cheese…………………. $26 dinner/$18 lunch portion

spring crumble: local rhubarb (grown in house) and black plum, soco black fig ice cream …………………………..$8

These items are avaialble on our regular a la carte menu for lunch and dinner.  In celebration of the farmed and foraged week we will offer a discount if three courses are taken ie. greens then gnudi or fettucini then crumble all for $35.  If not taken as the three course set menu regular price is applied.

A 3 course Farmed + Foraged prix fixe meal for $32  will consist of a vegetable antipasto (perhaps mixed baby beats from Farm Girl Farm with grilled red onions & fresh sheeps ricotta from Old Chatham or maybe a risotto cake with wild mushrooms depending on what’s around that week)

a traditional meat, starch & vegetable course (perhaps Gibson Farm pork, McEnroe fingerlings & kale from Farm Girl Farm)

a raw milk panna cotta with a rhubarb compote unless local strawberries show up in time.
